Serum 2-HS Glycoprotein Predicts Survival in Patients with Glioblastoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
METHODS: In phase 1 (biomarker discovery), SELDI-TOF mass spectra were studied in 200 serum samples from 58 control subjects and 36 patients with grade II astrocytoma, 15 with anaplastic astrocytoma, and 91 with glioblastoma. To identify potential biomarkers, we searched for peptide peaks that changed progressively in size with increasing malignancy. One peak, identified as the B-chain of 2-Heremans-Schmid glycoprotein (AHSG), was less prominent with increasing tumor grade. We therefore investigated AHSG as a survival predictor in glioblastoma. We measured serum AHSG by turbidimetry and determined indices of malignancy, including tumor proliferation (Ki67 immunolabel) and necrosis (tumor lipids on magnetic resonance spectroscopy). In phase 2 (biomarker validation), the prognostic power of AHSG was validated in an independent group of 72 glioblastoma patients.

Prognostic significance of serum alpha 1-acid glycoprotein in patients with glioblastoma multiforme: a preliminary communication.
The relationship between the levels of serum acute phase reactant proteins (alpha 1-acid glycoprotein, alpha 1-antitrypsin, haptoglobin) was investigated in patients with glioblastoma multiforme in relation to their prognosis. Alpha 1-acid glycoprotein was higher in the patients who died within one year after admission than in those with a longer survival time. It is suggested that serum alpha ...
متن کاملAssociation of α2-HS Glycoprotein with Neurogenic Heterotopic Ossification in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the α2-HS glycoprotein concentrations in serum and the occurrence of neurogenic heterotopic ossification (NHO) in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). MATERIAL AND METHODS During the period between January 2011 and January 2012, 75 patients (67 male) with paraplegia caused by spinal cord injury were enrolled. The patien...
متن کاملRe-irradiation of recurrent glioblastoma multiforme using 11C-methionine PET/CT/MRI image fusion for hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy by intensity modulated radiation therapy
BACKGROUND This research paper presents a valid treatment strategy for recurrent glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) using hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy by intensity modulated radiation therapy (HS-IMRT) planned with 11C-methionine positron emission tomography (MET-PET)/computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) fusion. METHODS Twenty-one patients with recurrent GBM rece...
متن کاملPrognosis and Survival Study in Patients with Glioblastoma Multiform and Its Relationship with EGFR Expression
Background and Aim: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common malignant and invasive tumor of the brain. The relation between prognosis and survival of GBM patients with Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) expression is challenging. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the prognosis and survival of patients with GBM and its relationship with EGFR expression. Materials and Methods: This single...
متن کاملP154: Role of Exosomes as Novel Biomarkers in Diagnosis and Prognosis of Glioblastoma
Glioblastoma multiform(GBM) is the most prevalent primary brain tumor. Exosomes are extracellular vehicles for exchanging information between various cell types including cancer and normal cells. Exosomes are indicative of pathophysiological conditions of brain tumors that could be used in diagnosis and prognosis of GBM. In tumors, exosomes could carry various molecules like several miRNAs and ...
